Insightful meeting at the National Book and Reading Centre

The event, moderated by Ms. Alda Bardhyli, Head of the Centre, brought together an enthusiastic audience of readers, writers, and translators. Dr. Zela discussed his translation of John Updike’s “Rabbit” tetralogy into Albanian, shedding light on the nuances of translator-author relationships and the often unexplored aspects of the translation process.

Key topics included the retranslation of classics, the unique opportunities the Albanian language offers in interpreting 20th-century masterpieces, and the current challenges faced in translation. Dr. Zela, known for his work as a literary translator, storyteller, poet, and researcher, was also celebrated for winning the 2020 annual Translation Prize by the Albanian Ministry of Culture for his translation of “Rabbit, Run.”
